How Damson Idris Arrived
For Damson Idris, arriving at tonight’s F1 premiere in New York City called for something far more exciting than a standard black car. The actor made a grand entrance at Radio City Music Hall behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition—a limited-edition vehicle created specifically for the high-octane sports action film. It was a striking way to arrive, and just one of many standout style moments of the evening.
Styled by Daisy Haddigan, Idris—who stars in FI alongside Brad Pitt—wore a double-breasted pinstripe three-piece suit from Prada’s Fall 2025 collection. Grooming was handled by Jessica Smalls, while black leather Chelsea boots anchored the ensemble. Finishing touches included a beaded necklace, a sparkling ring, and a gem extender worn as a bracelet, all from Didris, his own luxury jewelry label.
Damson Idris’s approach to red carpet dressing, he tells Vogue ahead of the premiere, “all starts with the clothes.” “I need to feel the fit, the fabric, the vibe of the outfit before anything else. I can’t force a look; it has to come naturally in the moment.” True to that instinct, Idris was still considering different suits just hours before stepping onto the carpet, ultimately deciding on the Prada ensemble he wore without a shirt underneath. “I wanted something that felt modern and sophisticated,” he explains, noting that the premiere represented the culmination of intense effort and personal investment. “It was important to me to wear something that honored that. It means a lot to celebrate this night and everything I’ve built.”
The highly anticipated film—which Idris first teased at the 2025 Met Gala—demanded months of preparation, including hands-on training with real F1 drivers. “I had to learn how to move and think like someone who lives and breathes racing, and that was both humbling and inspiring,” he says. Now, with the film finally premiering on the big screen, Idris is simply ready to share the experience. “I’m just excited to see everyone’s reaction,” he adds. “We put so much into this film—the training, the stunts, the emotion—and to finally bring it to an audience, especially one full of F1 fans? That’s the moment.”
